Not a very good article. Dubious in places. For example, Prajadhipok did not sign into effect the first constitution in Dec 1932. An earlier constitution (which the king insisted on saying was "provisional") was enacted soon after the 24 June 1932 overthrow of the absolute monarchy. Suggest that the author (and others) read Ben Batson's pro-monarchy book on The End of the Absolute Monarchy or Judith Stowe's more recent book.

Agree there's much more to Thailand than its beaches. Travelling to these other destinations is a good way to avoid the tourist crowds too.

Khao Yai National Park is amazing, you're likely to see hornbills but unfortunately tigers haven't been seen there for years.

Tourist Police 1155 does not work for Samui. Contacts straight to Bangkok.

Local Tourist Police number is wrong - use 077 414 198 which is the Tourist Police Box by the Lake behind McDonalds.

I definitely agree with you - Bangkok’s Canals and the Statue of Buddha in Ko Samui should be visited by every visitor to Thailand. With out it they will have missed some essential part of Thailand's culture.
